Classroom News

Week of September 11th: The students will be learning about the different colors this week. A newsletter was sent home last week. Please have your child wear the appropriate color on each day. The students will learn how to spell and read the color from interactive videos. As a class we will also be creating colllages of the color of the day from pictures students bring in. 

Week of September 18th: This week the students will start math workplaces. The students will use math tools to explore. One math tool the will be introduced this week is geoboards. They will use rubberbands to create shapes on their own boards. The students will also be introduced to septembers sight words. A list of sight words was sent home with your student last week. Please practice and review the words with them. 

Week of September 25th: This week in learning center the students will use play dough to practice spelling their names and letters. The students will also be introduced to the letters B, F, and T this week. Each new letter will be introduced by reading a story followed by a picture hunt to find words that start with the letter sound. The students also will listen to a video by Jack Hartman to learn the letter. Please continue to go over letters and letter sounds weekly with your child. 

Week of October 2nd: October is fire safety month. The students will learn about fire safety this week. The students will also get to tour a fire truck and ask fireman questions. The students will learn the different parts of a fire truck by labeling and color them. Throughout this month please talk with your children about what to do if there was ever a fire in your home and what the escape plan is.

Week of October 9th: The week the students will be introduced to teen numbers. The students will learn how to count forward and what the numbers look like. In math workplaces they will spin a spinner and whatever number it lands on they will draw the number. This will help the students become familar with the new numbers. The students will also be introduced to syllables. During calender we will clap how many syllables are in words. The students will also learn about the letters A, K, E, and G.

Week of October 16th: The students will be learning about how to sort things this week in science. I will read  story about a family who picks out their own pumpkin from a pumpkin patch and how each pumpkin is different in its own way. The students will then use real pumpkins to sort into the categories of size, shape, and texture. The students will also learn about what to do if they were ever on fire.... stop, drop, and roll!

Week of October 23rd: This week the students will be learning how to count by 2's. We will us our days ins chool chart to learn hwo to count. The students have previouslty been learning about counting by 10's and using 10 frames but they will now learn how to count by 2's. The students will also learn about reprsenting the number on a ten frame dot card by using two hands to show the number of red and blue dots. 

Week of October 30th: The students will continue to learn about the alphabet this week. They will be introduced to the letters J, M, and P. We will play a bingo game each day to reinforce the letters that have already been taught. The students will also complete their pumpkin assessment this week. They will be tested on knowing their phone number, address, counting to 40, letters, and color words. The goal is for the students to all have a completed jack-o-latern. 

Week of November 6th: The student will begin to learn how to create scentences. We will practice using sight words to make scentences. The students will then be given fill in the blanks to creat their own writing. They will be given sight words and have to add their own pictures to complete the scentenc. The students will also be introduced to a new calender. THey will be learning about position, left, right, on top, under, and inside this month. 

Week of November 13th: The students will get new literacy centers this week. They will have rainbow tracing, read to self, writing center, cut and paste, computers, and sight words. At sightwords the students will sue white boards to practice writing sight words and copying scentences that sue the words. The students will also use pattern blocks to spell out sight words. The centers are all new and will be used throguhout the next few weeks. The students will also learn about the letters L, I, Y, and Q. 

Week of November 20th:The students will learn about what it means to be thankful this week. They will each get a leaf and draw something they are thankful for and get to put their leaf on the KIndergarten tree of thanks. The students will also be introduced to a new math workplace. They will play a beat you to five game. The students will spin a spinner and try to connect unifix cubes to get to the number 5. They put make exactly that number with their unifix cubes and not go over. 

Week of November 27th: The students will be learning about rhyming words this week. In literacy centers they will be given a word and have to match the correct picture to the word that it rhymes with. The students will also learn about the letters C, S, and Z. Please continue to practice sight words, letters, and sounds with your student. 

Week of December 4th: The students will be learning about wants and needs this week. They will then write a letter to Santa of what they want for christmas. They will draw then label three things. The students will also be learning about living and nonliving. They will be go on a nature walk to see the living and nonliving things outside of the classroom.
